Asian influences are seen with the use of multiple varieties of Japanese maples, including: Acer palmatum
The curved cedar deck is cantilevered over a 1,000 square foot water feature that is approximately four feet deep. Sawn basalt steps and a stone pathway lead to the sunken hot tub and gardens. Tobi-Ishi basalt step stones were chosen for the pathway, as the natural weathered surface provides grip, and match with the native stone used throughout the landscape. The solution, as crafted by Pacifica Landscape Works of Delta, is a large curved cedar deck cantilevered out over a massive water feature, complete with a sunken hot tub, and framed by a profusion of Asian and local plants. Before: A bland and boring green space “The deck offers clean site lines and plenty of room for entertaining,” explained Michael Bjorge, president of Pacifica Landscape. Seven sawn basalt steps lead from the deck down a pathway of basalt Tobi-Ishi step stones to the hot tub that seems to float in the large pool. Multiple varieties of evergreen trees were retained or planted in this Surrey makeover: Cedrus deodara
